Michael has been a Varsity Athlete at Mountain Pointe for his entire high school career and is also not new to the All-City Banquets, having been selected All-City in Football and Soccer. In Soccer Michael was a four year starter for the Pride, and won the Joe Selleh Award in 1997/98. Michael lead the team in goals in 1998 and again in 1999, and was voted the MVP this past season.

Michael has received special recognition at the State and national levels, being named first team All-State by Arizona Football magazine, First Team All-East Valley, and First Team Central Region. Michael was listed in Prep Star Magazine as a 1998 Post Season All-American, and No. 10 "Athlete" in the Western Region. USA Today also listed Michael as an Honorable Mention All-American.

In the academic area Michael has been honored with the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Award for 1998. He ranks 82nd in a class of 445 and carries a 3.88 grade point average. Michael belongs to the National Honor Society, fellowship of Christian Athletes, Class Council, and Student Council. He also has been involved with volunteer services to the Andre House Homeless Shelter. Michael is also active with the Corpus Christi Catholic Church Youth Program.

Michael is the son of Juleen & Michael Barth.
