Effective January 27, 2014
The Tempe All-City Association’s (the “Association” or “TACA”) mission is to recognize and honor student-athletes, coaches, and administrators for their outstanding contributions to athletics within the Tempe Union High School District (“TUHSD”).
The Association is governed by its Board of Directors, whose names are maintained by the Association’s Secretary.
Board members may attend all Association Board meetings, banquets, and other functions.
By September 1 each year, each Board member shall pay annual dues of $100. The annual dues amount is subject to change when/if the Board deems it appropriate. Annual dues shall be paid c/o the Association’s Secretary.
Each Board member is required to pay the (then) current rate for dinner at each TACA banquet that s/he attends.
Association Board meetings are generally held prior to each TACA banquet.
The Association’s Secretary will provide Board members with advance
notice prior to each Board meeting. Notice will generally be provided
to Board
members via email.
The Association’s fiscal year runs from September 1, through August 31.
The Board shall nominate and approve a
slate of Officers to serve during
each fiscal year.
The Association’s slate of Officers consists of a (a) President,
(b) Secretary,
and (c) Treasurer.
For fiscal year September 1, 2013, through August 31, 2014, the Association’s slate of Officers consists of the following:
These Bylaws were adopted by a majority of the Association’s existing Board members.
The effective date of these Bylaws is February 1, 2014.
Any amendments to these Bylaws shall be (a) approved in advance by a majority of the Association’s (then) existing Board members, and (b) confirmed in writing through the issuance of a set of revised Bylaws.
The Association has a Hall of Fame, which is reserved for former TUHSD student-athletes, coaches, or administrators, who excelled or made exemplary contributions to athletics within the TUHSD.
The Board may, from time to time, nominate and induct new members into the TACA Hall of Fame.
Provided that TACA has sufficient monies available each year, the Board shall nominate and award a scholarship to a top male and female athlete.
The Association shall hold three awards banquets during each fiscal year: (a) a fall awards banquet; (b) a winter awards banquet; and (c) a spring awards banquet.
In addition to (i) awarding student-athletes the awards listed herein, and (ii) occasionally inducting qualified individuals into the TACA Hall of Fame, the Association shall recognize and issue an award to each TUHSD head coach whose team wins an Arizona state team title.
TACA student-athlete awards shall be awarded based on the following protocol:

** Note: Due to the variety of offensive schemes currently being used by schools today (i.e., “spread” or “pistol” formations are commonly used today versus the “I” or “pro-set” formations typically used in the past), the Association is not insisting on the previous designation of two running backs and a tight-end. Rather, the head coaches within the TUHSD may select either (a) one running back and a total of four ends/receivers, or (b) two running backs and a total of three ends/receivers. Similarly, due to changes in the defensive schemes used today to defend against these new offensive schemes (i.e., “nickel” and “dime” secondary packages are commonly used today), the Association is leaving it to the discretion of the TUHSD head coaches to determine the designation of the 11th defensive player, i.e., either a lineman, linebacker, or defensive back.

Clarification: Several of the sports listed above specify a precise number of athletes receiving TACA awards each year (e.g., Volleyball, Wrestling, Cross- Country, etc.), whereas other sports listed above specify a “maximum” number of athletes receiving TACA awards each year. For example, a lone, female track athlete may win three or four events at the TUHSD/City track meet, and, if so, less than 14 female athletes will receive TACA track awards that year. As another example, a lone, male athlete may be selected as the TACA Quarterback and also as one of the TACA Defensive Backs in a given year, and, if so, fewer than 24 athletes will receive TACA football awards that year.
In contrast, for those sports listed above where a specific number of athletes is designated each year to receive TACA awards (e.g., Volleyball, Wrestling, Cross-Country, Basketball, etc.), the precise number of athletes specifically designated above to receive awards for that sport shall receive awards each year. So, for example, a total of five female athletes, and a total of five male athletes, will receive TACA basketball awards each year.
